George Floyd and the George Floyd Justice in Police Act of 2020

Like many Americans, George Floyd left the North Carolina poverty to attend college in Houston, Texas. He began taking classes to become a truck driver, and soon had a relationship with a white woman, Courteney Ross. As a high school student, Floyd excelled at football, playing tight end for his high school’s football team. He played in the state championship game in the Astrodome in Houston, which his team lost to Temple 38-20. After years of fighting crime, Floyd became an inspiration for young people. He was a mentor, known to his students as “Big Floyd” in the classroom.
